Indian High Commissioner held a reception for the Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team

Times24.net: High Commissioner Pranay Verma along with his spouse Mrs. Manu Verma hosted a reception on 16 September 2025 at India House in honour of the Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team which is departing for the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup being co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

In his welcome remarks, High Commissioner noted that India and Bangladesh shared many deep and enduring bonds ranging from their shared geography, history, language, culture, etc. Another bond that connects them together is a deep love for cricket. High Commissioner noted that the Women’s Cricket Teams both in India and Bangladesh have undergone an impressive transformation over the years, and are competing with great passion and playing high quality cricket. They have made their nations proud.
3. ⁠High Commissioner called the Women’s Cricket Team as a true symbol of women empowerment and also of the youth power, and added that we proudly stand with them. He hoped that the Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team will inspire every girl-child in the country to follow their foot steps to pursue their dreams and passion and excel in whatever field they choose. He wished the Women’s Cricket Team a great tournament ahead and all success. He also wished the Bangladesh Women’s Cricket greater glory and newer heights.

4. ⁠The event was also attended by Mr. Nazmul Abedeen, Chairman of of the Bangladesh National Women’s Cricket Wing and Ms. Shathira Jakir Jessy, who will become the first woman umpire from Bangladesh to officiate at an ICC World Cup match. The 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, the 13th edition of the tournament, will take place from September 30 to November 2, 2025. Matches will be hosted in India and Sri Lanka jointly.
