Awami League leader of Dhaka’s Kafrul police station Ariful Islam is in hiding, in fear of lawsuits and attacks

Awami League leader Ariful Islam Babu and his family members are in fear of one after another murder cases of Jamaat-BNP leaders and activists, terrorist attacks. Terrorists attacked and captured 3/4 house of Ariful Islam Babu. Along with Ariful Islam Babu, Awami League’s associates and leaders of fraternal organizations have also gone missing. However, several people said that the angry workers of Awami League are also afraid.
Those concerned said that Bangladesh Awami League was in power for more than 15 years. At that time there were many well-wishers of Awami League. But on the afternoon of August 5, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left the post of Prime Minister and left Bangladesh in an air force helicopter. His younger sister Sheikh Rehna also accompanied him. Sheikh Hasina was forced to leave power in the face of intense mass protests demanding the resignation of the government. Awami League’s rule of a decade and a half ended with his departure.


Then the whole picture started to change. Central leaders went into hiding. Cases started, many people were arrested. Many people’s homes, offices or business establishments are being attacked, everything is being looted. The leaders and activists of the recently ousted party are spending their days in fear after seeing this.
A joint general secretary of Awami League said without revealing his name, we are trying to save ourselves now. Many times you have to go into hiding to avoid lawsuits and attacks. Employees are requested to be careful. Our homes are not safe. Businesses are not safe either. Hiding at risk. One of our leaders was killed while defending himself from the attack case. There is a political case. We are more concerned about the employees.


According to party sources, the grassroots leaders are away from home to avoid the attention of the law enforcement agencies. They are trying to hide themselves. However, families are living in fear day and night; What happens when! Top leaders of upazila or district Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League, Krishak League, Svechchasebak League, Mahila Awami League and Jubo Mahila League are said to be without houses.
On August 5, the law and order situation in the entire country deteriorated drastically with the political pot-change. Many people, including some politicians, sought refuge in the cantonment in fear of death. Bangladesh Army gave shelter to 626 people of different classes and professions. After leaving there, the political leaders went into hiding. Some in the country and some migrated to different countries including neighboring India. Ariful Islam Babu, the former Senior Joint General Secretary of Awami League of Ward No. 4 of Kafrul Thana (Dhaka Metropolitan North) of Dhaka has also moved abroad due to fear of terrorist attacks and lawsuits. Awami League leader Ariful Islam Babu, who is in hiding, told Times 24.net that there are false cases every day. Our activists are being attacked. So far 7 murder cases have been registered in my name in Kamfarul, Pallabi, Bhashanate and Mirpur police stations. Every false case has been filed. Terrorists attacked my house and looted goods and occupied 3/4 of the house. In this situation, I request Awami League leaders and activists to stay in a safe place. None of our leaders and activists can stay at home. On the one hand, BNP and Jamaat activists fear attack, on the other fear of lawsuits.


So far, former law minister Anisul Haque has been arrested in more than a hundred murder cases; Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Private Industry and Investment Advisor Salman F Rahman; Awami League joint general secretary and former social welfare minister Dipu Moni; Shamsul Haque Tuku, Deputy Speaker of the 12th National Parliament; Former Minister of State for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak; Tanveer Hasan Saikat, general secretary of Dhaka University branch of Chhatra League; Former Minister of State for Sports Arif Khan Joy in Awami League government. Apart from this, Awami League’s organizing secretary Ahmed Hossain, former minister of state for liberation war affairs AB Tajul Islam and recently ex-chairman of Chittagong Port Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail. Leaders and activists of the district and upazila levels are being arrested in addition to the center. Police arrested six Awami League leaders and activists in Rajshahi. The six arrested are- District Awami League organizing secretary and former chairman of Puthia Upazila Parishad, Abdus Samad Mollah; Bagmara Upazila Bhabaniganj Municipal Awami League President and former Municipal Mayor Abdul Malek Mandal; Goalkandi Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Alamgir Sarkar of Bagmara; Salim Reza, President of Jubo League, Ward No. 3 of Baghar Pakuria Union; Godagari Municipal Awami League General Secretary Nasimul Islam and Kamarpara Awami League worker Abdul Hannan. Apart from this, Sylhet Metropolitan Awami League Organizing Secretary Syed Shamim Ahmad and Publicity Secretary Abdur Rahman Jamil have been arrested.


Analyzing the data of the murder cases against the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, it is seen that eight cases of genocide have been submitted to the investigation agency of the International Criminal Tribunal. At least 103 cases have been filed in different police stations of the country. In total, 111 murder cases have been filed against Sheikh Hasina so far. Apart from this, a case has also been filed against him on charges of kidnapping and disappearance.


According to party sources, in the current situation, central leaders are in hiding but many are active on Facebook and WhatsApp. They can only be contacted on WhatsApp. Multiple sources have confirmed that they are only in touch with trusted staff or acquaintances.
